The practice of topping trees was once quite common all across the United States, and can still be found in the south and on occasion everywhere, but modern research and observation has deemed it an unacceptable practice in the Arboricultural industry. At least once a year we are asked to perform the practice, and I choose to re-educate the client, because all of the effects of taking the entire canopy off of a tree are negative.
