Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car! Another cloudy & misty day, but a lot of developments too, including an explanation as to why the Model Y production seems down, while the Cybertruck production seems up. The Boring Company crews continue work tunneling, while huge progress on the south end extension is being made. North end conduit installation work is also making a lot of progress today plus a lot more to see and talk about! The main reason why we are seeing Model Y production slower than normal is directly related to the recent staffing layoffs, from what I am hearing from people who work at Giga Texas and are in a position to know the situation. The Model Y line took a larger hit in staffing as compared to the Cybertruck line, and as a consequence, we are seeing a lower production rate and explains what we are seeing at the outbound lot. Timestamps: Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 2:53 Drone flight footage & infographics: 3:10 to 30:56 A few highlights form the flight today to look for in the images and video: The boring company crews continue to make progress tunneling, and we see a few clues as to how far the tunnel has progressed underground. First, the number of concrete liners has been reduced by about half, meaning all of these are installed underground! In addition, the color and consistency of the dirt coming out of the tunnel has changed. To understand the significance of this, a little history lesson is needed. in 2005-2007, the highway was constructed using fill dirt on top of the old sand and gravel mine, and also the geological clay deposits. This fill dirt was a bright brown and is what we have been seeing up until now. The new dirt is partially mud ad the water is being separated at the spoils basin, and the dirt material is a darker gray ... most likely some of the clay and the sand and gravel material. If this assessment is accurate, the tunnel may be past both lanes of the highway! The south end extension work is moving quite quickly now, including most of the open area between the old and the new buildings is filled in now and we see multiple floor levels emerging in this area. More floor and roof decking has been installed in this location too. More glass being prepared for installation on the west side, while a lot of work installing pipes, electrical boxes and other finishing items on both the ground and second main floors. Crews were installing metal forms on the top of the new structural cooling tower platform on the southeast corner. These are likely needed before all the EVAPCO fan units are installed. A lot of work on conduit installation on the north end, from the northeast angled corner of the casting machine section to Tesla Road, on the north side of Tesla Road and then up to the south end of the new electrical switchyard. In addition, conduit installation is underway on the east side area of casting where the screw-type piers were installed. In a related development, the large collectors that we previously saw on this side of the building have been moved back outside. This now suggests these are part of the new baghouse filtration system that will be installed in this area.
