In 2013, American pop star Beyoncé surprise released her self-titled fifth studio album. That album was accompanied by a long-form film that featured music videos for every single track. While she had previously made music videos for all thirteen tracks on her second album, 2006's B-Day (compiled on the 2007 video album B'Day Anthology Video Album; as an aside, my late aunt had this exact DVD and I remember watching it quite a bit as a child), this would be the first time she fully embraced the idea of a joint audio-visual experience. She further built upon the format when she created an hour-long companion film for her next release, 2016's Lemonade. While not the first visual albums, the success of these two albums would do a lot to popularize the visual album format. Since then, many musicians such as Thom Yorke, Ed Sheeran, Frank Ocean Kanye West, Solange (Beyoncé's sister), Halsey, Twenty One Pilots, Travis Scott, Sia, etc have released their own visual albums. This nearly two-hour experimental collage film is not just meant as a visual companion to Space Ambient Music for the TikTok Generation, but a clear indication of the channel's future direction. I won't say much but I have a lot planned for the channel that isn't music-based. I hope people enjoy the film. I may not have the resources that Beyoncé has, but I hope my film is similarly engaging.
