Tactical Field Care Pain Management

During the tactical field care phase of TCCC, pain should be addressed after active combat has ceased and other life-saving priorities of care have been addressed. This video focuses on the management of battlefield pain using available analgesic medications. This video will provide knowledge on: -Simplified triple-option approach to battlefield analgesia and its primary goals -Analgesic medication selection, dosing, and contraindications based on the casualty’s level of pain (mild, moderate or severe), type of injuries present, and the presence of shock or respiratory depression -Appropriate methods of administration and evaluation of side effects for TCCC approved analgesic medications including Tylenol, meloxicam, fentanyl, morphine and ketamine -Evaluation of mental status using the AVPU method -Monitoring of casualties receiving opioids and/or ketamine -Reversal of opioid medications with Naloxone in the event of respiratory depression -Use of analgesia in severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) -Treatment of nausea and vomiting secondary to the use of analgesic medications -Restrictions on the use of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) on the battlefield -Use of benzodiazepines/opioid combinations and relevant contraindications -Effective pain control without causing harm Always find the latest TCCC at www.deployedmedicine.com or download the "Deployed Medicine" app on your smart phone or tablet.
