Nino Schurter 's record in MTB and at the Absa Cape Epic is nothing short of legendary. The Swiss rider has competed in The Untamed African MTB Race seven times, winning twice (2017, 2019) and has won a total of nine stages. In his early career, Schurter arrived at the Absa Cape Epic with a drive to take on the #Untamed, finishing in 13th place in his first appearance. He then went on to finish 12th in 2013, and 5th in 2014. 2017, saw Schurter team up with fellow countryman Matthias Stirnemann, who together had a dominant performance, winning the Absa Cape Epic for the first time. The Swiss duo won the Prologue and two stages, finishing 12 minutes ahead of the second-place team. A DNF in 2018 is the only mark against Schurter's record, which only motivated him more to returned in 2019 with Lars Forster, winning the prologue and two stages again. Finishing the race with a comfortable margin of victory over the rest of the field. Schurter has continued to be a competitive force at the Absa Cape Epic. His third place in 2023, losing the lead on the final day, shows he is returning to winning ways.
