Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson 1 Highlights (Cormier Becomes Champion)

The event was expected to be headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between then-champion Jon Jones and top contender Anthony Johnson. However on April 28, following Jones' hit-and-run incident, the UFC decided to strip him of the title and suspend him indefinitely. He was replaced by the previous title challenger Daniel Cormier, who was scheduled to face Ryan Bader in the main event of UFC Fight Night 68. On the heels of relentless grappling and outstanding conditioning, Daniel Cormier practically obliterated Anthony "Rumble" Johnson en route to capturing the light heavyweight title via a third-round rear-naked choke. Cormier's constant pressure, persistence, and ability to overwhelm Johnson were the main things we will remember from this title fight. Johnson was able to land in fashion when Cormier gave him the distance, but he just didn't do enough in close quarters to ward off DC's wrestling. Rumble's inability to push Cormier off him on the ground was also significant in this fight, which was a by-product of sapped energy and inferior technique. All in all, the Olympian followed his cut-and-dried game plan to repel one of the best power punchers in the history of the sport. But after he claimed the title with a rear-naked choke in the third round, Cormier delivered perhaps his biggest shot. "I have a message for one man," Cormier said during his postfight interview with Joe Rogan. "Jon Jones, get your [expletive] together. I'm waiting for you."
