In this talk, Prof. G. Desiraju delves into the complex relationship between Indian civilization and the Indian Constitution, exploring the intersection of sanatan dharma and national governance. The discussion begins by examining the concepts of Hindu Rashtra and Hindu Rajya, emphasizing the significance of Hindu cultural and religious values in designing the constitution of our country. Key issues such as the division of Hindus into various jaatis (castes), favouritism towards muslims and discrimination in minority institutions is also discussed. The speaker critiques external forces that seek to weaken India’s unity, and advocates the formation of something like the Sanatan Dharma Samrakshna Board as a potential response. Religious and social issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and government control over temples are discussed. The speaker also touches on the broader concept of a Civilizational State, contrasting it with the idea of a Nation State and questioning how India's national identity can be shaped to reflect its ancient cultural roots. About the Speaker: Gautam Radhakrishna Desiraju is an Indian structural chemist and professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Known for his work on crystal bonding and weak hydrogen bonding, he serves on the Vice Chancellor's Strategic Advisory Council at the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, and the Academic Council of Rishihood University, Sonepat.
