Yuen Qiu 元秋 - stuntwoman - actor - director Born in Hong Kong in 1950, Yuen Qiu 元秋 studied Beijing Opera 京劇since she was 10 years old at the Chinese Drama Academy 中國戲劇學院 under famed teacher Yu Jim-Yuen 于占元, alongside other Hong Kong movie legends such as Sammo Hung 洪金寶, Jackie Chan 成龍, Yuen Biao 元彪, and many more. In 1968, Yuen Qiu entered the film industry as a female stunt double for the Shaw Brothers, something rare for that time, doubling for women and men alike. In the early 70s, she joined Great Earth Film Company 大地影業公司 with her junior ‘brother’ Yuen Lau 元樓 (Jackie Chan), working together in two movies. After leaving Great Earth, she participated in over 45 Hong Kong movies for various film studios, including a number of Korean productions as well. From being a Bond Girl in the 70s to her outstanding role in Kung Fu Hustle 功夫 (2004), Yuen Qiu has demonstrated she was among the strongest female martial leads of her Beijing Opera troupe. +Noncommercial use for these clips for educational purposes is intended under fair use
