Just A Shave: Gillette Aristocrat 1936 - Wizamet Iridium Spr Xtr Stnlss (8) - Arko - Semogue 1438

Wanted to bring a stick shave out this time. Arko is a great one, at least in legendary status, to use. I do like La Toja's scent much better though. And with this shave, all the boar brushes in my Boar-a-thon have now reached 23 uses! Razor: Gillette - Aristocrat 1936 Blade: Wizamet - Iridium Super Extra Stainless (8) Lather: Arko - Arko Brush: Semogue - 1438 Boar (22 uses) Post: Razor and Blade Notes - Gillette - Aristocrat 1936 ::: Wizamet - Iridium Spr Xtr Stnlss (8 uses): The Wiz was not a perfect match for this razor this time, but it did well enough. No irritation felt after just a few minutes after the shave. Plus, it might have been all that brush work irritating the neck area a bit. Soap Notes - Arko - Arko: Shaved with a portion of a stick this time. Scent is the usual lemony industrial cleaner type that we half love/hate. When it weakens a bit, it does start to resemble a light soapy scent. Lather: A face lather today. Felt like bringing a shaving stick to the channel. Worked out pretty well. Lather was slick and protective. I did start out with too much water in the brush, which mostly ended up on my shirt as I pressed into splay to start to build the lather. But I just added it back in gradually. I did end up with barely enough lather to do the 3rd pass. Perhaps a larger brush, or an older boar with more splay would hold enough lather to make it to the 3rd with some margin. Hydration: Perfect (for me) 1.5 tsp added to make lather = 3 passes of lather Bowl: No Bowl Brush Notes - Semogue - 1438 Boar (22 uses): Well I'm glad this little guy has no scritch, because the face work during this one would have worn me out. Backbone is firm, but tips are soft enough to be comfy. And they carry the promise of softer future shaves as it breaks in more. *Shave Quality* During the Shave Feel: Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable Neck: A little irritating After the Shave Closeness: Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get Neck: Cut flush to where I just see the tips (above average for me) Wetshaving is the age-old shaving method where you create a lather from a soap or cream, usually with a brush. And these days, we also usually mean using a safety razor (aka double edge or DE) or single edge or straight razor to remove the hair. We often enjoy less irritated skin, healthier skin, more enjoyable shaves, and often closer shaves than those who use a multi-bladed cartridge and canned shaving foam.
