Benson Henderson vs Gilbert Melendez Highlights (Great CHAMPIONSHIP Dogfight)

#ufc #BensonHenderson #gilbertmelendez #mma #combatsports #martialarts #punch #fights #kickboxing #dogfight #battle UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez (also known as UFC on Fox 7) was a mixed martial arts event held on April 20, 2013, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The event was broadcast live on FOX. The event was headlined by a UFC Lightweight Championship bout between defending champion Benson Henderson and Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez. All apologies to those who may disagree, but this was one heck of a lightweight title tilt between Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez. It was technical and fast-paced, and like every other Benson Henderson fight since he joined the UFC, the result was controversial. Benson Henderson retained the UFC lightweight title, winning a razor-thin split decision against Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez Saturday night in San Jose, California. It was Henderson’s seventh straight win in the UFC and third successful title defense. These two elite fighters went back-and-forth for the full 25 minutes, trading punches, kicks, and rounds. Henderson opened slower than usual, dropping the first frame before stepping things up in the second. Much like his second fight with Frankie Edgar, Henderson was successful with leg kicks but hit the pause button on the tactic in the fourth round for no known reason. In the end, Henderson did just enough to convince two of the three ringside officials that he had won three of the five rounds, though they differed on which three they were. He’s become accustomed to these close contests since reaching the top of the division and will need to put together another dominant performance like the one he had against Nathan Diaz last December to truly establish himself going forward. That's just the way the cookie crumbles when it comes to Henderson, apparently; he's able to win fights, but always does so in controversial fashion.
