Dates business gets a boost in India ahead of Ramadan

Aurangabad/ Thiruvananthapuram, June 18 (ANI): The dates business has received a boost across India with the holy month of Ramadan beginning on Friday. Muslims across the world observe a month of fasting and prayers during Ramadan to commemorate the revealing of the Quran to Prophet Mohammed. In Aurangabad, shops selling dates were jam packed with Muslim customers. Apart from distributing among friends and family members, Muslims prefer to break their day-long fast with dates. Several varieties of dates are made available to people during Ramadan which may cost anywhere between Rs.35 to Rs. 1500 per kilogram. In Thiruvananthapuram, a date fair, offering various varieties of the fruit from across the country and also from various parts of the globe, was held. Customers were fascinated to see the kind of dates that were available at the fair, along with special dishes and pickles made of dates. One of the organiser's of the fair, Issahak Vizhinjam, said Ramadan is the time of the year when the dates business gets a boost.
