Stye Abscess

A stye abscess is a small, painful lump that usually forms on the outer edge of the eyelid. It occurs when an oil gland or hair follicle becomes infected by bacteria. Styes can appear as red, swollen bumps and are often filled with pus. Symptoms Red, swollen lump near the edge of the eyelid Pain or tenderness Sensitivity to light Eye irritation or watery eyes Crusting around the eyelid Causes Bacterial infection (most often Staphylococcus bacteria) Blocked oil glands Poor eyelid hygiene Frequent touching of the eyes Use of contaminated makeup or contact lenses Treatment Warm compress: Applying a warm, moist cloth to the affected eye for 5-10 minutes, several times a day, helps encourage drainage. Avoid squeezing: Do not attempt to pop the stye, as this can spread the infection. Good hygiene: Keeping the eye area clean and avoiding eye makeup or contacts until the stye heals. Antibiotics: If the stye doesn't improve or worsens, a doctor may prescribe antibiotic ointments or drops.
