If you receive a 3D rendered image as a Photoshop document and it has a Material ID layer you can use it to make selections and masks for each element in the image allowing you to make changes very simply. Here's how. Notes: The coloured islands in the Material ID layer means you can easily select them in Photoshop The Magic Wand tool works great for this Make sure its Tolerance option is set to 16 pixels And turn OFF the Contiguous option Make sure the Material ID layer is highlighted in the Layers palette Click in the area you want to select Choose an adjustment layer and the selection will be added as a mask to control only that part of the image. You can also use the selection to float just that part of the image to a new layer (command-j) Shift click to ADD selections, Control click to subtract them.
