The Post Roe Baby Boom: Inside Mississippi's Maternal Health Crisis | States of America

It’s projected that five thousand more babies will be born in Mississippi this year as a direct result of the state’s restrictive abortion ban following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Many of these babies will be born in rural areas of Mississippi where the maternal healthcare system is already stretched to the limit. Babies are more likely to die in Mississippi than in any other state, and it has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. And Black women in Mississippi die from pregnancy at four times the rate of white women. We travel to the Mississippi Delta to understand how the Post-Roe baby boom will play out on the ground.
