LIVE: Russia, Ukraine Trade Fire As Partial Ceasefire Teeters | Vantage with Palki Sharma | N18G Russia and Ukraine launched fresh strikes against each other on March 20, even as both the sides agreed upon a "partial ceasefire". The ceasefire, brokered by US President Donald Trump, covers only the energy infrastructure in the two nations. Russia launched as many as 171 drone strikes on Ukraine, many of which were shot down. In retaliation, Ukraine also launched around 130 drones on Russia, hitting the Engels Air Base — a key military base housing Russia's nuclear bomber planes. The partial ceasefire came after a reportedly two-hour long phone call between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the latter listed his demands for a complete ceasefire. Trump also had a separate phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — days after the duo had an unprecedented showdown in the Oval Office. On March 19, Russia and Ukraine also released 350 prisoners of war, with both the sides exchanging 175 prisoners each. Meanwhile, reports also suggest there was some confusion over the ambit of the partial ceasefire — with Ukraine believing it covered both energy and civilian infrastructure, and Russia only agreeing upon not attacking the energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
