The pilgramage takes place in the Hejazi desert which is arid and exhausting. Mawlana alludes to these people, asking them what exactly they are seeking 'in this dizzying desert'? While 'this House is sublime', Mawlana emphasises that it is not the House, built of bricks and mortar, that is the goal of the pilgramage. Rather, it is to seek the 'Lord of the House', who is closer to the human being than his 'jugular vein', as recounted in the Qur'an. As such, 'the Beloved is right here'. The Beloved is right here – come forth, come forth! This Beloved of yours is your neighbour – wall to wall; In that dizzying desert, what are you seeking? If you see the Face of the Faceless Beloved; You will become the Teacher and the House and the Ka'ba. Ten times you have taken this path to that House; For once, from this house ascend to the roof. That House is sublime: you have narrated of its form (But) tell me of the signs of the House's Lord! Where is a bouqet of roses, if you have witnessed the garden? Where is one pearl of existence, when you are of the Sea of God? With all that, [know] your tribulation is your treasure!
