Tolerance

The United Arab Emirates today is an outstanding international model for tolerance, coexistence and equality; a model that has empowered the more than 200 nationalities, differing greatly in culture and religion, living together in the UAE in freedom, equality and security. With this model, the country has secured a distinguished and reputable status among countries, ranking first in the region and third overall in the Tolerance Index, which is included in the Annual Report 2016, issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD)in Switzerland. Adding to its efforts in this field, and out of its commitment to the wellbeing of human beings, the UAE Government has adopted a strategy to promote this principle of tolerance, forming a first-of-its-kind Ministry of Tolerance. Furthermore, the UAE launched the National Tolerance Programme, which is rooted in the principles of Islam, traditional Arab values and morals, and the ideology founded by the UAE’s Founding Father the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. In the same vein, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, launched a landmark Global Tolerance Initiative to honour the international symbols of tolerance across intellectual and creative fields, such as literature and aesthetic arts. The initiative paved the way for the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Tolerance, which aims to produce young Arab leaders and cadres in the field of tolerance.
