His musical journey began under the guidance of his mother, Sangeetha Bhushanam Srimati Thillainayaki Kanakaratnam, his first guru. His father, Kalabhushanam Subramaniam Kanakaratnam, a revered poet, writer, and speaker, further nurtured his artistic sensibilities. He trained rigorously in the gurukula tradition for over seven years under the legendary Padma Shri Sangeetha Kalanidhi Palghat Prof. K. V. Narayanasamy, a direct musical descendant of Shri Tyagaraja Swami’s disciples. Following his guru’s passing, he continued his advanced training under Smt. Padma Narayanasamy until 2008.
