Growing Store Bought Popcorn Seeds!! 🍿 🌱

Growing Organic Store Bought Popcorn Seeds: One group expired in 2020! The other group is not expired yet. First 2 attempts, I soaked the seeds for too long. I read to store them for up to 7 days in water but by day 3, they molded both times and we had to throw them away. 3rd attempt, SUCCESS! Only soaked seeds 10 hours in a dark spot. We stored them in our cupboard. No mold! Planted in soil, root tip facing down. Only 1 soaked seed on the “Not Expired” side looked like it had sprouted a bit. Kept soil around 70 degrees and moist. By the 2nd day, I saw sprouts only from the “Not Expired” seeds🌱 Day 4, transplanted the “Not Expired” seedlings 🌱 to a large pot. I read that it’s ideal to directly sow corn into the ground. BUT its the middle of winter here, we’re in the process of building a greenhouse, and this is just a fun and empowering science experiment. Will keep these 3 pots 🪴 under a grow light indoors 14 hours per day until greenhouse is finished. Hopefully it doesnt grow to the ceiling first or the deer 🦌 don’t come knocking ✊ 🏡 🪴 🌽 Will post updates. I left the “Expired seeds” in the tray and will give it another week. Again, no sprouting from Expired on Day 4. Keeping soil around 70F and moist. The corn that sprouted will grow the very same popping corn 🍿! We will store them in glass jars after harvest to make our own popcorn 🍿. Corn is supposed to reach full maturity 🌽 90-120 days and will then be ready to harvest! Thank you for watching!
