Germany to close Iranian consulates after execution of German-Iranian citizen

Germany announced Thursday it will close all three Iranian consulates after Iran executed German-Iranian citizen Jamshid Sharmahd for alleged terrorist attacks. Tehran’s embassy in Berlin will remain open. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock described Germany’s relations with Iran as “more than at a low point”. Baerbock accused Tehran of trying to use Germany's support for Israel in the widening Middle East conflict to justify Sharmahd's killing. The minister also called on the European Union to add Iran's Revolutionary Guards to its list of terrorist groups.
