In this video you learn about the discovery and properties of electrons. How did electrons discover? In 1886, Goldstein conducted an experiment, using a special device called a cathode ray tube. Which has an anode, and perforated cathode, connected to the high-voltage battery, Perforated means having holes in it. This tube was filled with gas at low pressure, maintained by a vacuum pump. When an electric current was passed through, something incredible happened! Goldstein observed that in addition to cathode rays, other rays were also present in the discharge tube. These rays were travelling in opposite directions to cathode rays. He found that these rays passed through holes present in the cathode. and produced a glow on the walls of the discharge tube. He called these rays as "canal rays". why they are named canal rays? These were called canal rays, because they passed through the holes or canals in the cathode, and produced glow.
