This meeting, if it occurs, would be their first in-person encounter since Yunus assumed the role of Chief Adviser in August 2024, following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh has officially requested the meeting, expressing hope that it will take place. New Delhi has not confirmed the meeting but has not ruled it out either. The summit marks a significant moment for Bangladesh as it prepares to take over as the chair of BIMSTEC for the next two years. The anticipated meeting comes amid strained relations between India and Bangladesh, which have been exacerbated by recent comments from Yunus about India's northeastern states during his visit to China.
