One of the US team members, Melvin Douglas, made a political gesture by holding up a portrait of Ayatollah Khameini, Iran's spiritual leader. But elsewhere in Tehran several hundred people staged an anti-American demonstration following Friday prayers. They were protesting against the threatened US military strike on neighbouring Iraq.
