Ayn Rand first appeared on "The Mike Wallace Interview" in 1959 ( • The Mike Wallace Interview with Ayn Rand ), but her second interview with Wallace, broadcast in 1960, hasn’t been available to the general public until now. ARI has secured and restored the surviving audio of that interview, and is pleased to publish it online. In the interview, you can hear Rand’s comments on conventional morality, the proper relationship between reason and emotion, U.S.–Soviet relations at the height of the Cold War, and why she was still optimistic despite the state of the world. This rare audio was premiered at ARI's 2024 Objectivist Summer Conference. To bring this content to life, our archivists worked tirelessly to source the original recording and acquire the broadcast rights. Often recordings like this require digital re-mastery, and the addition of music and engaging visual treatment to enhance their appeal to modern audiences. Each step toward bringing Ayn Rand’s unique, lively voice to the internet takes time and money. But the results show they are worth it.
