[Anchor Lead] President Moon Jae-in has instructed government institutions to adopt a so-called "blind hiring" system starting in the second half on this year. Under the blind hiring system, hometowns or educational backgrounds are not indicated in job applications, and employees are chosen based only on their capabilities and character. But private corporations have shown some concern. [Pkg] President Moon Jae-in has issued an order for a so-called "blind hiring" system to be used when hiring government or public institution employees starting later this year. Blind hiring refers to a hiring method in which factors which could bring about bias, such as hometowns, educational backgrounds, or physical features, are not recorded in job applications. The aim is to select talented people based only on their capabilities without background factors affecting hiring decisions. [Soundbite] Pres. Moon Jae-in : "I hope this system will be implemented starting in the second half of the year so that job seekers can compete fairly based only on their capabilities in a level playing field." In following the president's instruction, relevant government ministires and agencies plan to write up "blind hiring" action plans in the public sector within this month. Meanwhile, the government will publish a guidebook and push for legal revisions so that this hiring system could be implemented in more areas. But the key is whether this system can be adopted by the private sector. While agreeing with the need for an unbiased hiring system, private businesses are reluctant to put the system to work immediately.
