Let me know what you think and who you'd like to see featured next! The Strokes felt like the perfect place to start as when they arrived in 2001 they seemed impeccably formed. But as I discovered just a few years before they were playing cheesy Metallica and Bob Marley covers and Julian was too shy to even perform live. In the video, I also get into when Julian and Albert met as 13-year-olds at Switzerland's most expensive boarding school, how they came up with the Strokes name and why producer Gordon Raphael initially felt their garage sound was past its sell-by date. For the thumbnail I've used an image from Cody Smyth's book The Strokes - The First Ten Years, which I believe is getting rereleased later this year (2023). It's a wonderful document and I'd say the perfect stocking filler for that Strokes fan in your life.
