As a Black musician, I have mourned with the Black community in these last few weeks and pushed off any motivation to create. But music has always been my emotional outlet and my safe haven. I’ve donated, I’ve signed petitions, I’ve shared countless articles, and I will continue doing everything I can. So singing it out was the next best thing. “Psalm 42” by Tori Kelly has been profound to me in so many ways, but it resonates with me now more than ever. I hope something in these words resonates with you too. (***Listen with headphones***). • The word ‘faith’ has been on my heart lately. I stumbled upon Hebrews 11 (“the faith chapter,” as my mom calls it) last week, and I haven’t been able to get the first verse out of my head: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” What we’re seeing in America, in the WORLD, right now is faith actively put into action. People of all ages, races, and backgrounds are coming together like I’ve never seen before. It’s no accident that the biggest protests in history since the Civil Rights Movement are taking place *now*, and during a global pandemic of all things. We’re finally opening our eyes, ears, and minds to the greatest possibilities. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Treyvon Martin, Eric Garner, Atatiana Jefferson, Sandra Bland, and countless others are gone, and nothing can bring them back. But justice will come. Change will come. Whether it’s in this lifetime or the next, we won’t stop until it does.
