In this video I will show you the easiest way to install Original on the Steam Deck, and then how to install a game from the Origin Store. In this example I will install Battlefield 4 on the Steam Deck. I will also write out the instructions below. #steamdeck #streamdeck #valve Important Notes Before You Start: If possible, I highly recommend using a USB hub so that you can connect a mouse + keyboard. It will make the process much simpler. You can still do this without it by using the touchscreen and the on-screen keyboard, but using a real mouse + keyboard is way easier. Below is the exact hub I use, and it also has pass-through charging, hdmi-out, and an ethernet port, so it has many different features that are very useful. https://amzn.to/39D4Mkw Instructions: 1) To download the Origin Installer, you will need to use Google Chrome browser. I tried it in Firefox, but it did not work. If you already have Chrome installed on your Steam Deck, you can proceed to Step #3. If you do not have Chrome installed, you need to get to the Desktop by clicking the STEAM button on the left of your Steam Deck (under the left trackpad), then click Power and Switch to Desktop. 2) Once on the Desktop, click the Discover icon on the bottom left of the desktop to open the Discover application. This is a built-in app store on the Steam Deck that you can use to download some games and utilities that are not found on Steam. For now, we need to click in Search on the top left, and type in Chrome. When it finds Chrome in the search results on the right, click Install. Once it installs, click on it and then click Launch on the top right. 3) When Chrome launches, navigate to the website https://www.dm.origin.com/download and this will download the Origin Installer. 4) Close Chrome 5) Open Steam. NOT Gaming Mode, just Steam. The icon should be on your desktop. 6) When inside Steam, click LIBRARY on the top left, then click Add A Game on the bottom left, then click Add a Non-Steam Game 7) In the Add a Game screen, click BROWSE on the bottom middle. When Browse launches, click on the bottom where it says File Type: and select All Files. 8) I cannot say which directory you will be in right now, as each persons last directory will be different, but the directory you need to navigate to is /home/deck/Downloads 9) Once you're there, you should see OriginThinSetup.exe. Click that and click OPEN. Now click ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS on the bottom right. 10) Now find OriginThinSetup.exe in your Library list on the left, then right click on it and go to Properties. If you're using the touch screen, click on it and then click the cog wheel on the right, as this will also take you to Properties. 11) Now click COMPATABILITY on the left, and on the right make sure Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool is checked. Once its checked, click on the box below it and select Proton 7.0-2. You can also try the first option which should be Proton Experimental, but this did not work for me. After you have selected it, you can click X on the top right to close this window. 12) Now click Play, and the Origin Installer will launch. From here you can proceed like you normally would in Windows. I unchecked all the checkmarks for shortcuts because I don't want them, but you can leave them if you want. After it installs, click the X on the top right to close it. 13) Now we need to remove the Installer from Steam, and add the Origin Client we just installed. Right click OriginThinSetup in your Library, then click Manage - Remove non-Steam game from library. 14) Now that we've removed the Installer, its time to add the Origin Client. We're going to follow the same procedure we did in Step #6. Click Add a Game on the bottom left, then Add a Non-Steam Game, then click Browse. 15) Now in the Browse screen, you will need to find the exact location of the Origin client. Click on the top bar where the path is, and select /home/deck/, then click .local, share, Steam, steamapps, compatdata. Now select the latest folder in the list, since this is the latest thing you've installed, then click pfx, drive_c, Program Files (x86), Origin, and find Origin.exe in the list and select it. If you can't see it, make sure All Files is selected on the bottom next to File Type. 16) You will now see Origin in your Steam Library, and you will also need to set its Compatibility to use Proton 7.0-2 like we did in Step #11. 17) That's it. Origin is now installed. You can launch it by clicking Play. Note about installing: Installing games works the same way as on Windows, with 1 small difference. When you click Download, it will tell you that you don't have enough space. To fix this, you just have to choose another destination. Click Change Location, and select My Computer, then C. In there you can pick a folder to install to (I used Program Files), and you can also make your own. After that, everything will work properly. Just download the game and play it.
