Oranienburg was one of the first concentration camps. It is located quite close to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and the Inspectorate of Concentration Camps but it was not in operation at the same time as those two. Oranienburg concentration camp was set up on 21 March 1933 when the Oranienburg SA Standarte 208 captured 40 local communists. They were taken to the abandoned premises of a former brewery on Berliner Straße. On 16 May 1933, the concentration camp ceased to be private and was taken over by the state. The first prisoners were gradually tasked with cleaning and preparing the grounds and buildings. First, straw sleeping quarters were piled up in the cold storage rooms, guard rooms, and administrative offices. The straw began to rot after just a few days in the high humidity, so bunk beds were soon built. A kitchen was also set up, including a water pump. Water and electrical lines were laid, and toilets and washing facilities were installed. At the end of 1933, a decommissioned locomotive was used for heating. A machine gun was mounted on the roof of one of the camp buildings. For whoever does the alleged manual control at YouTube. My history channel is based on my own research and generally comes from places I have visited and or original research. I live in a motorhome and as such spend most of my time travelling between Poland, Germany and Italy which is why there is a tendency to produce material from these countries, and sometimes material that is not available in English. My speciality is in World War Two, and in particular, the Holocaust although as you can see, I have opinions on a lot of other historical subjects too. / historysite #Hitler #Holocaust #WW2 Production of independent researched history is time consuming and expensive.
