Often, one of the best ways to increase productivity at work is to simply walk away and come back when you’re feeling more energized. What I’m advocating is taking an actual break throughout your working day and treating your weekend like a weekend. When you simply keep working without pause, your performance tends to suffer. At one of the gyms I go to, I use the rowing machine. On this machine, when you keep doing the pulling motion faster and faster, the water just starts spinning at the same rate and you don’t pick up any extra power or speed. The key to going faster is to pause, so that the next time you pull back you build power. What is that little pause that you can start taking in your day? I used to work with a productivity consultant. Productivity actually works in cycles of about ninety minutes. You'll know you're in a lull when simple tasks take you too long. That’s your cue that to increase productivity at work, you need to just take a break. A short 15 minute pause will be more productive than just tying yourself to the chair. This goes the same for your evenings. Schedule fun things after work. And you really do have to schedule them in or you'll never get to them. There's always more work that you'll want to do, so you have to intentionally plan beaks both during the day and after. It can seem counter-intuitive, but when you take a break, you give yourself the rest that you need in order to perform at your best. If you want to increase productivity at work, remember the pause. You’ll be surprised how much more you can achieve. ============= Karie Kaufmann San Diego Business Coach ActionCOACH Business Coaching + Training Center 3111 Camino del Rio N STE 101, San Diego, CA 92108 (619) 321-9262 www.kariekaufmann.com Stock footage provided by Videvo
