Linear 1 - Drum Groove

This Linear Drumming groove is based on the pattern: KRLK RLRL RLKR LKRL. Linear drumming refers to any drum groove in which no two limbs hit together at the same time. I designed the Groove series to offer a complementary approach to traditional musical notation. It presents several advantages for understanding the structure of repetitive rhythms. The geometric shape of the rhythm is immediately visible, making it easy to recognize its properties. My goal with this series was to create a learning tool where musicians can spend more time practicing the rhythm and less time figuring out what to play. To produce this video series, I used After Effects for all the animations and Ableton Live to record, sequence, and process the drum sounds.
