Following the Phoenix Suns (46-32) 113-105 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans (46-32), coach Frank Vogel discusses when the game changed after Phoenix was up 13 early, trying to stop Zion Williamson, the Pelicans’ defensive strategy against Devin Booker, the inability to close out the game, Bradley Beal’s big night, the mindset for the final stretch and more. Phoenix was up by 13 early, but then a huge second quarter (37-24) helped New Orleans gain momentum. The Pelicans were able to sustain this the rest of the game and withstand any run from the Suns, despite Phoenix actually taking the lead in the fourth quarter. Zion Williamson, who finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and a career-high five blocks took over down the stretch for the Pelicans. Bradley Beal (33 points, five assists), Devin Booker (25 points, seven assists) and Kevin Durant (23/6/4) had big games, but the Suns only got 24 points combined of any players outside of them. The Suns and Pelicans are now tied for the sixth seed in the Western Conference, but the Suns own the head-to-head tiebreaker with four games left. Phoenix next hosts the Los Angeles Clippers (50-28) Tuesday night for its final home game of the regular season.
