I watched your 4 seed video which I thought was great but I have a question. Do we have to worry about phytic acid from the seeds? Hi Darrin. I love to see you guys thinking on your feet. Phytic acid or phytates are commonly found in beans and legumes, nuts, and seeds. Humans lack the enzyme, phytase to breakdown phytic acid. When this acid is not broken down or metabolized it binds to minerals like iron, zinc and calcium preventing them from being well-absorbed into the body. Now avoiding all foods that contain phytic acid isn’t smart and it’s not the answer because many of these food have quite a bit of nutrients that you need like chia, flax, hemp and so forth. Now there are a few things you can do to reduce or eliminate the phytic acid. You can soak the beans, nuts or seeds overnight. For beans I always recommend soaking them for 2 days and make sure you change out the water every 24 hours. You can also sprout the seeds, grains or legumes. This will breakdown the phytic acid. Also, you can take a digestive enzyme that contains phytase in the formula and this will breakdown the phytic acid. A couple of good brands that contains phytase are HoloZyme or HUM Flatter Me. Thanks for your question and keep them coming.
