‘Uncertain near-term future’: Treasurer on ‘warning signs’ in global economy

Treasurer Jim Chalmers says there are some “warning signs” in the global economy which reveal an “uncertain near-term future”. “We had to keep our balance in the face of complex crosscurrents in the global and domestic economy – the lingering impact of three crises in 15 years, the pace of social and economic change that’s still reverberating through the global economy in often unpredictable ways,” Mr Chalmers said during his address at the National Press Club on Wednesday. “There’s some welcome resilience in the global economy, but there are some warning signs for us as well. “All of these pressures reveal an uncertain near-term future.”
