This film is from the Eye Filmmuseum collection. Many films in this collection contain outdated information or offensive language/images. While this is problematic, we do not wish to erase these films from (film) history. As a film museum, we show films as much as possible in their original form. Director: Charles Huguenot van der Linden | Production Country: The Netherlands | Year: 1936 | Production Company: Productiegroep 'Jonge Harten' | FLM33282 | Film from the collection of Eye (Amsterdam) - https://filmdatabase.eyefilm.nl/en/co... A group of university students spend the holidays on the island of Texel. Sip feels attracted to Hans, a young artist, while Annie is in love with Peter. The arrival of the unhappy and confused Maja, who has run away from her husband's family with her young son, plays havoc with Peter's feelings. Annie decides to tell Maja's husband about his wife's whereabouts and the two are reconciled. Jonge harten, a story about a group of young people and their love lives, is first and foremost an effort to see out the old and bring in the new in film making. Director:s Charles Huguenot van der Linden and Hein Josephson were fed up with folksy, kitchy films and wanted something new and fresh. The studio shots are deliberately made to look stiff and awkward but once the camera is allowed outside, the style changes dramatically: the camera movements become fluid and free and the acting looks almost improvised. Huguenot later commented: 'We didn't want to make another De Jantjes, Bleeke Bet or Malle gevallen. We wanted less chat, no theatricality and less drama. In short, a film about real life.'
