According to the Pew Research Center, “roughly a quarter of the world’s countries are grappling with high levels of religious hostilities within their borders.” As a result, the religious composition of many countries is rapidly changing: In Iraq, for example, the number of Christians has plummeted from approximately 1.5 million in 2005 to 300,000 today. Former US Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA) led a delegation from the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, a newly launched religious freedom organization, to northern Iraq earlier this year. The delegation’s trip report documents sharply deteriorating conditions for Iraq’s religious and ethnic minority communities targeted by ISIS.
