Yay! Deer and Bears on the Hike to Tokopah Falls

One of the best day trips I’ve had to the park and I’ve had many. We came in 180 with the intention of scouting new Boondocking locations in the forest that might fit our trailer. Also to see what gates were open. As usual that initiative didn’t last long. Most of the spots I had tagged for scouting wouldn’t accommodate a trailer our size due to the road in. We did however find two caches of fire wood that are close to a campground we frequent. And also confirmed one open gate on the mile that was obstructed shortly after by a partially cleared down tree.. but not clear enough to fit a 33’ trailer through. We had lunch on Hume road and crossing through ten mile only one open gate was found in addition to the ones I checked a few weeks ago. I did however find some new spots we would fit in and a waterfall I found on a satellite map on Woodward creek. This seemed to be a less known location and I suspect it doesn’t flow mid summer-fall. Feeling successfully stopped scouting and decided to hike Tokopah Falls. This is my favorite spring hike. I didn’t see any marmots this time but a heard of deer and a few brown bears. What a treat. There was still some frost on the falls and patches of ice/snow on watch tower. We ate our dinner in solitude at the Lodgepole picnic area before heading home.
