Kirchhoff’s voltage law is also known as Kirchhoff’s loop rule. Often asked question is how to use Kirchhoff's law to solve problems. The law states that the algebraic sum of the changes in potential as we move in a loop of a circuit should be zero. This is often expressed in an equation form called Kirchhoff equation. Kirchhoff’s voltage law helps us establish two rules for working around single loop electric circuits. These are – 1. Resistance rule: If you are moving through a resistance in the direction of the current, the change in potential negative. If you are moving in the opposite direction, it will be positive 2. EMF Rule: If you are moving from the negative terminal of a battery to the positive, the change in potential is taken as positive.
