Sylvester Stallone: 2011 International Boxing Hall Of Fame

Actor and screenwriter Sylvester Stallone give his 2011 International Boxing Hall Of Fame induction speech. Born Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone in New York City on July 6, 1946. An aspiring actor and screenwriter, Stallone penned the script about an underdog boxer from Philadelphia named Rocky Balboa. ROCKY was released in 1976 and "The Italian Stallion" has become one of the most enduring and iconic boxing figures of all time. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 1976, winning for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Film Editing. Stallone was nominated for Best Writing and Best Actor in a Leading Role, becoming only the third person in history nominated for acting and writing in the same year, following Charlie Chaplin (The Great Dictator) and Orson Welles (Citizen Kane). The success of ROCKY began one of the most triumphant and lucrative film franchises in history. ROCKY II (1979), ROCKY III (1982), ROCKY IV (1985), ROCKY V (1990) and ROCKY BALBOA (2006), all written by Stallone, have entertained and inspired boxing fans from around the world. In 2006, Stallone was awarded the Boxing Writers Association of America award for "Lifetime Cinematic Achievement in Boxing." His involvement in the sport continued as host and executive producer of the boxing reality series The Contender.
