A new Friday Feature Artist interview is now available with artist Sara Impey 🧵✨ Sara Impey is a textile artist specialising in free-machine embroidered text, which she writes herself. A former journalist, she uses the textile surface to explore contemporary social and political issues, often with a touch of humour. Her work is deeply rooted in quilt-making techniques, with most of her pieces taking the form of wall hangings, though she also creates three-dimensional works. Sara made her first quilt in 1971 while still at school, and her background in quilting continues to inform her artistic approach. Sara studied modern languages at Oxford University before training as a newspaper reporter. She comes from a farming family in Essex, UK, and still lives near the farm where she grew up. In addition to creating art, she lectures on her practice and the history of Coggeshall Tambour Lace. Watch the interview on Facebook or YouTube, or listen on your favourite podcasting platform If you're fascinated by textile art, storytelling through embroidery, and the intersection of craft and social commentary, you won’t want to miss this episode!
