(08/09/2001) A week after Liverpool players starred in England's 1-5 win away in Germany in a World Cup Qualifier. John Gregory's Villa went to Anfield to pick up a memorable victory in a game which Steven Gerrard saw red. Dion Dublin's bullet header fired Villa in front in the first half. Liverpool drew level when Steven Gerrard's header was adjudged to have crossed the line from a Liverpool corner. Villa retook the lead through Lee Hendrie after Dion Dublin's miss kick fell nicely for Hendrie to finish. Liverpool then went down to 10 men after Steven Gerrard was sent off for a reckless tackle on George Boateng. Villa got a third through Darius Vassell to cap off a memorable afternoon for the travelling Villa faithful.
