Discover Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park | Ep 3 of Exploring the Heart of Australia

This is the best place on planet Earth. Well maybe that's an exaggeration, but this is one of the most memorable places on planet Earth. Kings Canyon is located in the Northern Territory, about 4 hours drive from Alice Springs. It's quite close to Uluru & for this reason it's often over looked. I am here to tell you, Kings Canyon is just as amazing as Uluru - if not better. -------- In this episode, we hike the Rim Walk around Kings Canyon at Watarrka National Park. This walk takes you up & along, both edges of Kings Canyon. Some of the cliff edges you stand on are terrifying. We discover the Garden of Eden, which is a secluded oasis, filled with water & native plants. I could have spent a whole day here, exploring every nook & cranny. But instead we had to leave, because we were running out of time & there was a storm rolling in. This is one of the best walks I've ever done - you must hike around Kings Canyon. Here are some of my pieces of advice: 1. The beginning of the walk is the hardest. You start this walk by climbing up what feels like 1000 steps. This is the hardest part of the walk, the rest is quite easy. 2. Give yourself plenty of time. This walk is only 6 kilometres, but there is so much to see & do. You won't be walking the entire time, you will stop to explore & take photos. 3. Be respectful. This walk is extremely remote & untouched. The indigenous aboriginals to this area lived off this land for thousands of years. Pay your respects to their spirits, and their past, present & emerging elders. It's approximately the size of California, but with a population of about 90,000 people. It was a beautiful & rugged place to grow up. This is where my love of 4x4s, the outdoors & adventure started. Every weekend would be another 4x4 trip, or a fishing trip, or a a journey into the wilderness. My father was my mentor & still is my inspiration. A few years later, I moved to Adelaide (South Australia) and I've begun to explore the region down here. I'm a digital marketer in my day job. But make as much effort as possible to get outdoors & explore the world.
