S. history. Texieira’s sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 27, according to Reuters. Teixeira joined the Air National Guard in 2019 and worked at an air base on Cape Cod in an intelligence unit, the New York Times reported. He had held a top-secret security clearance since 2021 and prosecutors alleged he began writing down information from classified documents and taking pictures of them to post on a private Discord server in January 2022. The information he was posting included U. S. officials’ predictions for the outcome of Ukrainian military efforts and information around key U. S. allies considering striking deals with the Russian military. Prosecutors said there was no evidence of espionage, but that Teixeira posted the information online on Discord as a way to impress people he had met online, according to the Times. The information eventually made its way from Discord—a messaging platform popular among gamers—to other social media platforms, according to prosecutors, which led to the leak becoming one of the most significant disclosures of defense documents in years. Teixeira has been in federal custody since he was arrested last April.
