Death Proof (2007) - Stuntman Mike and the lap dance

Death Proof is a 2007 American action thriller, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Staring Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito and others. It was made and released as a part of double feature entitled Grindhouse, with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, paying homage to double feature exploitation film experience of the grindhouse theaters. Death Proof is an excellent car chase thriller, filled with clever references to grindhouse cinema, as well as featuring intentional movie mistakes and faux-appearance of damaged film reel, to emulate the look and feel of a real B exploitation film of the seventies. Besides this premise, the movie has an excellent script, packed with the usual sharp and charged Tarantino dialogue, and brilliantly directed car chase scenes. The plot is relatively simple, but intercut with very entertaining and intense segments, that perhaps have a bigger impact than the complete story. The movie is basically about a psychopath stuntman who stalks and kills women with his car, only to end up targeting a group of women too big for him to handle. In this electric scene, we get a first real glimpse of Stuntman's Mike dark side, portrayed by Kurt Russell, hinted with certain key words during the conversation, but also with the overall manipulative nature of his deliverance. Even if we are not aware of the events that are about to unfold, the eerie atmosphere of manipulation is dominating during this exchange. A truly standout and underappreciated performance by Russell.
