Twiggy - Man Alive - Top Class People

About this collection Discover the roots of British working class traditions, remember some real working class heroes, and see how lives and attitudes have changed over the years by watching and listening to BBC programmes. Programmes chosen from over 60 years of broadcasting reveal the changing ways in which the working class have been depicted by the media. This collection was created in partnership with BBC Two's 'White' season, which explored the current challenges facing the white working class. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How working-class celebrities like Twiggy became fashionable? Synopsis This edition of 'Man Alive' is a veritable roll-call of 1960s working-class stars. Here they reveal their thoughts and feelings upon meeting royalty, how accents are now less of a hindrance in establishing credentials, and the ways in which being famous is changing their lives. We also meet Twiggy's very proud and equally down-to-earth mum! Did you know? Alan Aldridge, who appears in the programme, created the film poster for Andy Warhol's movie 'Chelsea Girls', for which there was briefly a warrant for his arrest. Justin de Villeneuve, born Nigel Jonathan Davies, enjoyed a "very luxurious war" as an evacuee at the home of JB Priestley, who dined with the children in his care every Sunday night. "There was silver at meal times. It gave me a taste for better things." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Original video from the BBC archives. http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/working/...
