LDH or lactase dehydrogenase is an enzyme which is a biological catalyst. A catalyst is a substance that speeds up the chemical reactions within our bodies, such as metabolism.  LDH helps with cellular respiration. This enzyme, LDH, is in almost every tissue within the body but is found in high concentrations within the muscles, liver kidneys, and red blood cells. So what does LDH diagnose? Well LDH also known as lactic acid dehydrogenase, or lactic dehydrogenase measures the amount of LDH in the bloodstream. While it’s normal to have some LDH in the bloodstream, excessive LDH can signify damage to our tissues whether from chronic or acute diseases, but this test cannot tell you which tissue is damaged.
