Voices Unheard: The Struggles of Young Adults in Blikkiesdorp

Blikkiesdorp, known as the Tin Can Village, emerged as a temporary relocation site in Delft, Cape Town, back in 2007. The community, predominantly consisting of corrugated iron shacks, was promised permanent housing by the City of Cape Town (DA). However, despite this pledge, over 1600 people continue to reside in Blikkiesdorp, still awaiting the fulfilment of these promises as we approach elections in May 2024. Their hopes and dreams remain largely unfulfilled, underscoring the urgent need for change. As the PMC, we refuse to let another year pass by, knowing that these were empty promises made by the DA government
