How To Plan Your Day Effectively?

Here are my favorite time management tips on how to plan your day effectively to get everything done. Productivity and time management are 2 of the most necessary skills for success in today's world. It took me a while to realize that my productivity greatly depends on how well I plan my day. And not only that but also how to structure my day to have a backup plan when things go sideways. Key Points: 1. Start your day with the most important thing. The idea is to get the most value contributing and hardest things of the day done first without any distractions. If we look at the whole day typically we have the most control over what happens in the morning. Mid-day is usually chaos and it's just going with the flow trying to get a lot of stuff done. But in the morning you have a clear choice what that first thing you complete will be. And here it's important to prioritize without letting yourself fall victim to distracting emails and social media. Look at all areas of your life and see which area you need to work on the most. Then out of that area pick 1 thing that has the highest leverage. 2. Plan your day the night before. As Brian Tracy says "1 minute of planning saves 10 minutes in execution". This is 100% true, and it's a life changer. You don't have to do any complicated planning but at least have an idea what you wanna do the next day. 3. Implement an "If-Then" structure for your day. For example: If I fail to have a healthy breakfast today I'll cook a healthy dinner. Or if I fail to get my whole 2-hour workout done I'll at least get 20 minutes. This allows you to stick to the schedule more and always have a fallback plan. It's super important to have already made these "If-Then" scenarios because your mind will be giving you all sorts of excuses as the day go by and things get hard. So it's a great idea to have already made up your mind so you reduce decision making fatigue and save up willpower for things that truly matter. 4. Eliminate half-productive time. Your brain can only focus on 1 thing at a time, and multitasking is an illusion when your mind can switch between these things fast. By eliminating half-productive time not only will you be able to get more things done faster but you'll also have more free time for creative thinking and for other areas of your life. 5. Sticking to a schedule is more important than doing perfect work. In essence, start things even though you can't finish them. Doing the first 30 minutes of a workout today and the last 30 minutes tomorrow will result in much more productivity and success than delaying the whole thing. We respond really well to investment and buy-in. Once you buy-in to a specific task by completing just 10-15% of it you're more likely to finish the whole thing. Starting from scratch is hard, there's no momentum and there's a sense that you need to get a huge amount of work done. By breaking it up into smaller pieces when you're busy you're using the "investment theory" to your advantage. Additionally, a big part of productivity is sleep, proper nutrition and managing your meals through the day. Getting 8-9 hours of sleep is the biggest "Hack" you can do to be more productive. It's a life changer.
