Article VI, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution states that the Vice-President elect are simply required that they, along with all other government officers (federal and state; elected and appointed), pledge to support the Constitution. "I, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God." This video includes all public oath-takings of the Vice President from John Nance Garner in 1937 (the first public ceremony) to JD Vance in 2025, the most recent ceremony. Some Vice Presidents took two oath of offices for the same term (one private, one public). For example, Joe Biden took his oath ‘privately’ on January 20, 2013 and took the oath again publicly at the inauguration the following day. It has been a tradition that if the inauguration (January 20) falls on a Sunday, the public inaugural ceremony is to be held the following day instead of January 20, the day the President-elect and Vice-President elect assume office as prescribed by the constitution. I deliberately did not include these private ceremonies as to not make the video uncluttered. Inspired by @Arthwin2013 's video. Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 0:08 John Nance Garner (1937) 1:01 Henry A.
