But then why fuel price adjustment charges are imposed on customers. Here is the reason, Government produces or purchases electricity from its own and other sources. Electricity is generated from various sources i.e. coal, oil, natural gas, solar, wind, and water. The per unit cost of produced electricity is different for each source. Unfortunately, a major portion of produced electricity i.e. 64% comes from fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas). These are all imported products. Their prices fluctuate continuously in the international market. When crude oil prices are high, the cost of electricity produced will also be very high. Thermal power plants are mainly owned by private companies known as independent power producers (IPPS). They claim the higher costs from the central purchasing power agency (CPPA) which in turn transfers the burden to customers by adding FPA to the electricity bills. What is FC Surcharge? The FC Surcharge means the financing count surcharge. It is incorporated in the electricity bills to balance the deficit amount between the government and power-producing companies. It is 43% of the electricity units consumed for the billing month.
